Protecting my Television

Posted By Admin on September 10, 2008 @ 1:36 am

I just recently purchased a plasma television for my business.  We will be using it to communicate some of the services that our company offers to the customers that are waiting in the reception area.  I thought that it would be a great way to educate our customers while they were waiting.

But since the television was going to be out in public, I wanted to make sure that it would be protected from damage.  It wasn’t that we couldn’t afford to replace it if we needed to, but I just didn’t want to have to get to that point.

So, I made sure to buy  a TV screen protector while I was at the store as per the advice given to me by the salesperson.  They made a good argument why businesses should buy TV screen protectors and how I would recoup my investment quickly.

For me, protecting the television just made sense.

Zooming With My Zune

Posted By Mitefind on July 21, 2008 @ 4:08 pm

When I first got my Zune player, I was good with just having a Zune dock cable. I played that thing in my bedroom all the time and I listened to it and watched short videos on it while I was on the bus going to school. I loved it and I loved my music.

Then, I found a new love and that was driving. When I got my driver’s license, I bought a car form my uncle for five hundred dollars and I found that I was going to have to buy a Zune car charger. I spent nearly as much time in that car as I did in my bedroom.

My mom bought me a Zune travel charger for my high school graduation and we joked about how she must want me out of the house now. I still love my Zune and I take it with me wherever I go and now I can also charge it wherever I go as well.

Never going to use a Map Again

Posted By Admin on June 2, 2008 @ 7:03 pm

I have always been a fan of maps - if you follow them, you rarely get lost.  At least that is how it has been all of my life, and I tend to stick with what I know.

But when we rented a car to go to a convention out of town, it was equipped with one of those GPS devices that you always hear about on the news and in stores.  I guess my wife ordered it so that we would have a smoother trip, though I didn’t understand why she didn’t trust my maps.

It took a while to get used to using the device, but once we started it was clear that it worked amazingly well.  Even the time that we were talking a bit too much and missed our turn, it told us nicely how to get back on track.

Sadly, the maps were forgotten, and we relied on the GPS the whole trip.  I think my wife is going to buy me one for my birthday, at which point I don’t think that I will ever use a map again.

The Perfect VOIP Phone

Posted By Admin on May 17, 2008 @ 7:49 pm

Having moved far away from home, long distance calling has been a large part of my life.  You see, I am very close to my parents (even though I live far away) and I call to talk to them every couple of days.  They are also getting older, so I feel like I need to stay in touch with them a little more than normal, just in case they are not there some day.

But, I have really been feeling the crunch of the long distance bills.  When you spend upwards of twenty percent of your income on the telephone, a solution - no, any solution, would be welcome.

It wasn’t until my birthday when I received one of those VOIP phones, that I realized that I had found my answer.  With one low price I was going to be able to call as much as I want, and not be tethered to a computer or wired headset.  In fact I would be able to use a regular phone, just like anyone else.

That is going to be just perfect for me.

Robots in Your Home

Posted By Jenn Brockman on May 15, 2008 @ 3:52 pm

If you are a lover of robots, you will find this one interesting. The latest in technology from Toshiba offers a unit that is not only cute but comes with loads of time saving features.

This gadget offers the ability to capture infrared waves. So, you turn on your TV with a remote. If the little robot “sees” it and captures the signature, it can then be made to control the TV using voice commands.

It could come in handy for more than just cases of lost remote controls. It also offers photo capture technology which means it can take, analyze and send photos to you from home to wherever you are.

This could be helpful if you were to have a break in at your home. The little guy could take photos of the thieves and they likely wouldn’t even know about it!

The voice technology may come in handy for listening to emails or hearing the headlines read to you once the robot is hooked up to those functions. For now, it is just a prototype, but the possibilities are bright for this future home robot.

Seeing A Clear Picture

Posted By Admin on March 14, 2008 @ 10:45 pm

I have been reading about upcoming television technologies, and I am very excited.  There have been talks about some upcoming Sony OLED TVs, but I needed to find out what OLED even meant.

After looking it up, I learned that it meant “organic light emitting diode”.  I also learned some other OLED info such as they are going to be extremely thin and offer something to compete with existing LCD and Plasma televisions.

Okay, maybe compete is not the right word – they will beat the current technologies badly.  You see, I read a chart that was AMOLED vs. LCD, and LCD doesn’t stand a chance.  Especially in terms of image clarity and detail, and LCD television is just blurry compared to what is coming out.

So, we will have to wait and see when they do come out, but I cannot wait to see the sharpness and clarity of these new televisions when they come out – I bet they will be amazing.

I Love Technology and my iPhone

Posted By Admin on February 14, 2008 @ 9:26 pm

Ever since I was a child I have loved gadgets, like computers and video games.  Any chance I had, I was tinkering with computers or playing the new video game systems of the day.

Now that I am older, I can experience my love of technology more than as a child since I now have the means to buy those toys that I want.  Since that is now my reality, I was quick to pick up an iPhone when they came out.

From what I read about the iPhone news at the time, I knew it would be a perfect match for my passion of technology and gadgets.  I also liked the fact that it would reduce the number of devices that I would have to carry around with me, which was a welcome feature.

Since I have bought my iPhone, I have bought a number of iPhone accessories such as a case, screen protector, and car charger.  I have even had the chance to download some iPhone games for those few chances that I have some downtime.

I love technology and I love my iPhone.

Learning How to Convert a DVD to iPod Touch

Posted By Admin on January 4, 2008 @ 11:00 pm

I had always thought that all iPods were exactly the same.  I am on my third one now and I am still using the same software to transfer my music to my new one as I did with my old iPods.

Now, I did find one difference between the models - the way you convert video to be played on them.  Originally I thought it would be the same, but when I used the video from my iPod Classic video converter, it looked horrible on my new iPod Touch.

You see, the video didn’t fill the screen properly, and the video looked poor.  I looked online to see if others had the same problems as I did.  I found many people had problems with the method to convert DVD to iPod Nano - but that wasn’t what I was looking for.

After an hour or so of looking, I was able to find a site that had a tutorial on how to convert a DVD to iPod Touch.  It took me just ten minutes to read and start to convert a DVD.  It is sure a lot easier than it used to be.

Secure Online Shopping

Posted By Admin on December 30, 2007 @ 2:54 pm

There have been new developments in technology that can help you to have a secure online shopping experience.

Why would you want a secure shopping experience?

I am sure that you are familiar with identity theft and fraud right?  Well, with the current method of inputting your credit card number online, there is the potential for someone to steal your number and make unauthorized purchases with your card.

Now, with smart card technology becoming more popular, there are good ways to secure your online shopping experience.  You see, the card encoding used on smart cards is very secure, meaning that anyone will have difficulties accessing or using your card.

To enhance your shopping experience at home, you can use a chip card reader installed in your computer, to use your smart card enhanced credit card while shopping online.

While you are on the go, there have also been some SIM Applications that allow you to shop directly from your phone without divulging your credit card information.

Feeling Like Smashing My Computer

Posted By Mitefind on December 19, 2007 @ 5:47 pm

Sometimes I wonder if I have been cursed with being computer illiterate.  I mean, these computers that they have now are supposed to be user friendly, yet, I have big problems.  Just the other day my computer went to a blue screen and said I had some sort of bla, bla, bla… registry error.   Oh, did I feel like smashing it.

After a walk around the block to clear my head, I came back inside.  You see, I could remember talking to a friend about keeping my computer tuned up and he had given me something to look at.  Thing is I had to find it.

About an hour later, I did find little package that he had given me.  Inside there was an article from a computer magazine that was about registry repair tools.  Reading the article, it was clear that there was reviews of two competing products Regcure and Registry Easy.  Seems that the features presented in the Regcure review and Registry Easy review were pretty much the same.  Except for the screen shots, both software packages looked equal.

But when I made it to the end of the article, I found that the best registry repair award was given to Regcure.  I went to their site, and I am going to try out the trial version of their software, and I will make my buying decision based on my experiences with it.  I guess I won’t be smashing my computer today - but it was sure close.
