Looking for IT Solutions

Posted By Admin on April 28, 2008 @ 4:17 pm

Our business has recently grown to ten people and we have added a server and workstations in our office.  Now, we really had no idea of how to setup our network and we needed help to do it.  Thankfully, we had the company that provided us with the new computers help us out.

But after that, we were on our own.  Unfortunately for us, they did not provide IT support to their customers, so we had to find a company that would do it for us.  That was definitely no easy task as we didn’t even know what questions to ask.

I enlisted the help of one of my business associates that had experience finding good IT consulting companies to help us out.  He showed us where to look and even recommended a couple good people to phone.

Eventually, we were able to find someone to help us with our IT issues.  Though it was a grueling quest, it feels good knowing that if we have any problems with our network, someone is available to help us out.

Computer Shopping Online

Posted By Admin on April 12, 2008 @ 3:29 pm

I have wanted to upgrade my old computer for a long time now.  Even though mine is the newest one out of all my friend’s computers, I just want to get a gaming PC that will be able to play Left4Dead when it comes out later this year.  Sadly the one I have right now just won’t cut it.

So, I have been looking at the many online custom PC retailers in an attempt to create the perfect computer for me.  Sure, I would like to get one with all the bells and whistles (not to mention the newest graphics card), but I want to keep my spending within budget.

Looking through all the choices, I think I will go with an XPC system by Shuttle.  Cool looking, quiet and small it would be the perfect choice for me.

Now all I have to figure out is dual core or quad core… too many decisions.

Thank You, Marc

Yesterday, when I was working on my income taxes forms at the computer, my hard drive crashed and I lost a few important files. I called my friend, Marc, to come and take a look. I figured if anyone had hard drive data recovery software, it would be him. I didn’t want to have to reformat my whole machine and was hoping he could just find the files for me.

He brought over some of the software that he has and said if he could recovery my files with this than it would not take long at all. I was grateful for him and his software because I honestly do not have time to deal with technical issues right now. Aside from needing to do my taxes, I also have two big papers due this week and I kind of need my computer working right now.

I figured that since he was there, he may as well dig out his photo recovery software and try and find the digital photos that I have missing somewhere on my machine. In fact, they don’t need to be recovered. We just need to figure out where I put them because I have no idea.

Changing My Registry Cleaning Software

Posted By Admin on March 12, 2008 @ 10:19 pm

For many years now, I have been using PC Tools Registry Mechanic.  It has been a powerful ally in keeping my computer running as smoothly as possible.  I have been very happy with it for all the time I have used it, but I felt that it was time for a change.

You see, I had an error that kept coming up that the software (for whatever reason) wouldn’t deal with.  It was getting to the point where I was getting so annoyed that I didn’t even want to use my computer anymore.

It was at this point, I decided that I should get some other kind of software to replace the one that wasn’t working.

In order to find the best one on the market, I decided to read some registry cleaner software reviews to help me make a decision.

It was the Regcure reviews that got my attention – everyone I read, the reviewer was happy with the software.

Good enough for me – now all I have to do is learn how to use it.  But according to what I have read, I will be an expert in no time.

Protecting My Identity from Thieves

Posted By Admin on March 11, 2008 @ 7:27 pm

It is really scary that there are a large number of people that become victims of identity theft.  It could be as simple as leaving valuable information on your computer, or just using a public computer without clearing the activities that you have been doing.

With the increase in identity theft cases, it got me thinking that I need some sort of Internet privacy security software solution on my own computer.  But I had no idea of where I should start.

I decided to ask a computer consultant friend of mine for some advice.  I just really had no clue of what I needed and what I should get.

Thankfully, he was able to help me.  His recommendation is that I use two different software packages instead of just one.  He suggested some good Web Anonymizer software as well as Privacy Controls from ParetoLogic to keep my private information safe.  So take that cyber thieves!

Keeping Our Employees Productive

Posted By Admin on March 2, 2008 @ 5:18 pm

Every business owner that you will talk to will tell you that they would like it if there employees never took a sick day.  Not only do they want to maintain a high level of productivity, but no one wishes another person to be sick, right?

With the proliferation of computers in the workplace, there have been an increasing number of sick days as employees have to deal with sicknesses created from the use of technology.  Some examples would be eye strain, headaches, and electrosensitivity.

What we have been doing is searching for both the causes and solutions to the large number of sick days our firm has been experiencing.  From the research that we have done so far, we have found that most of the health conditions that our workers are experiencing are due to the electromagnetic fields(EMF) coming from our computers.

In an effort to reduce the number of sick days, we have invested in some EMF protection for our office.  It is designed to reduce the effects on our employee health by negating the effects of the EMF in the office.

After a couple of weeks of use, our sick days have decreased, but it is too early to tell what the long term benefits of the protection will be.  So far we are happy with the results.

Almost Lost My Emails

Posted By Admin on February 19, 2008 @ 9:55 pm

I read once that most of the computer problems are caused by human error - I believe it.  You see, I just made one of those human errors this week when I dropped something on my keyboard and all hell broke loose.

Don’t ask me how I did it, but I dropped a book on my keyboard, and based on where it was sitting, it managed to delete all my emails in my email software.  After cursing for a few moments (I was really mad - thankfully no one was in the room at the time), I calmed down a bit - there had to be a solution to my problem.

I went online to do a search on how to do an outlook recovery.  After looking through some of the sites that I found, I learned that I was not the only one that had done this before - and there was some special software that let you recover deleted mails.

All I did was run the software, go watch a television program, and came back to it being done.  Not only did it get my lost emails back, but it was able to repair inbox - I guess there was some problems with that too.
