The Department of Public Safety of Texas is responsible for the accumulation of public records such as arrests in Texas, prosecutions and records with Class B violations in the State. The records are available from the Department’s Computerized Criminal History System, which is a repository for conviction records and is updated regularly by the local enforcement agencies, counties and municipalities.

For one to be able to access the database, one needs to be a member. If not, one has to join the site by creating an account. Once the account becomes live, the researcher needs to purchase several credits to fund his/her researches. Purchasing credits can be done through mailed in checks or by using credit cards. Each credit costs about $3 although other costs might be included which is dependent on the payment method that one uses.

Those who avail of checking method will have to pay an additional 1.25USD to the total fee. The fee is charged as convenience fee and the credits are available once the department clears the checks. For those who avail of the credit card services, 2.25% plus a transaction fee of .50USD is added to the flat rate so one has to pay total of 3.07USD per search. The use of the credits is deducted automatically from the card and the researcher can readily use the credits to do search queries.

It is imperative that researchers fill in the entire requested fields to ensure that the search would be successful. It is recommended to include the first name, middle name, surname and the person’s birth date. Do keep in mind that credits are non-refundable and as such, a credit is debited from the account’s credit even if the return result is a no-match. Having a no-result does not automatically mean that the record is not available. In some instances, the records might be restricted from public access such as in juvenile records or those records that are already sealed and expunged.

In some instances, the search might turn up with many results. To save up on one’s credit, one can preview each of the files to look for the record that one actually wants. Do remember that once the record is opened completely, it will automatically deduct a credit from the account’s balance. Some of the records might need further research done to ensure the authenticity of the report especially if there are no fingerprint records to go by. One may double check with the local agency or county that issued the report to ensure the accuracy of the details in the report.

For those individuals who have questions or complaints with their records, they can call the office to request for other information or add to the existing information sheet. In addition, those that might want to search for public records such as arrest search, death and birth records can also do so by checking online search records. Online public search record is the fastest and most convenient way for one to get the information they need without having to pay an exorbitant fee.
