The economy may be in a recession, but the sale of video games has not suffered. Since the early part of 2008, video game products have sold topping $1.7 billion. What does this tell you about the future of the video gaming industry? The video gaming companies continue to release new systems and games and the public continues to buy them.
The newer systems are so much more developed than the beginning systems that started the gaming world. Kids today couldn’t even imagine how basic the systems we grew up with were, yet we found them a lot of fun. Today’s technology will one day suffer the same fate but we can only imagine what the future holds for us in the gaming world.
Kids are not the only ones playing video games anymore. Millions of adults and all ages are playing their PS3, Xbox 360, and even the DS games. Back in time, this was just an activity for the younger generation, males in particular. Now with all the interesting graphics seem to bring a lot more interest to them.
Motion sensitive controls are the direction where the gaming industry hopes to be heading with their new gaming systems. Removing all limits and focusing on the virtual reality world is the ultimate goal. Most people believe this is the future of the video games.
Instead of merely being a game, it will be a virtual reality experience. Sort of like the holodeck on the Star Trek shows. Interacting with characters and functioning in virtual reality is being explored at the present. You have to admit it would be awesome to have your own holodeck to create scenarios for your enjoyment.
Limitations to creating a game of virtual reality is due to the fact of people not being able to move around while sitting n their living rooms. This is just a bump that is being studied and how they will work around it. One alternative that was found is using brain activity.
The conversion of movement by using brain waves was accomplished by a monkey. The monkey used it’s brain waves to control the arm of a robot. The robot arm was manipulated by brain waves to feed the monkey. Further research showed the monkey could control the robot arm the same as controlling it’s own arm.
The precursor to virtual reality games for the home is using controls that are motion sensitive. Wearing a headset and controlling actions through brain waves is the idea behind this. It’s not improbable to happen in the near future. The speed of evolution within the gaming industry has been miraculous.
Eventually games will become even more realistic. The main consideration when developing a game system that would be motion sensitive will be what a company that decides to go this route is willing to spend to achieve the end result. This is where the consumer comes into the picture. What they are willing to purchase for a virtual reality game will dictate what a company is willing to spend money on developing.
People today are much more likely to play a game that mocks the actions of real life rather than using a controller. The future is unseen in the gaming world, but video gaming may surprise us all soon.
