Once again, the cell phone phenomenon has made the cell phone market more confusing for the average person. With the constant upgrading of Blackberries or Palm PREs, even an average slide phone, flip phone and “pay as you go phone” can seem obsolete.
With upgrades of Blackberries and Palm PREs, you just cannot find a “pay as you go” phone or a standard flip phone any more. And many of the stuff you find online is labeled as “almost new” or “refurbished” which is just a fancy way to say that it is used.
But buy you buy a cell phone online, you might want to look at your current cell plan. Are you stuck in a contract with companies such as Verizon or AT&T? Since these companies will offer discount prices or free phones for upgrading with them, you might want to consider looking into what is available through the service that you plan to continue to use. Of course, these upgrades generally force you into another two-year contract so, really, nothing is free.
Another thing to remember is that you cannot just purchase a Palm or a Blackberry, turn it on, and then start surfing the Internet and use all of the applications. There is a monthly service plan that you have to purchase and these plans generally start at sixty dollars a month. So when looking to purchasing cell phone online items, you might just want to look for phones that would be a replacement of a broken phone you have. Just make sure that the phone is compatible with your cellular carrier and you can add it on to your existing plan.
If you think you might want additional capabilities, such as going from a normal cell phone to a Blackberry or wireless broadband, you need to be aware that you are going to need to have a carrier for the additional service, which is different from normal cell phone service. It is difficult to find a pay as you go plan for a Blackberry, in other words, so you can’t buy cell phone online units that you don’t have the appropriate plan for and expect to get service without committing to a contract.
Basically, if you are looking for a new Blackberry or something similar then you can get a new phone for free through promotional opportunities. And once you have signed with a particular carrier, you can purchase something refurbished online so that you have it as a spare, in case something happens to the one that you are using.
If you do find yourself purchasing a cell phone online, no matter which kind it is, you may want to look for sites that allow you to pay with Google Checkout or Paypal. These are the safest payment vendors to use online. Just make sure that you are doing your homework ahead of time so that you will know that what you are purchasing is going to work perfectly with what you have set up.
When researching the promotional opportunities, make sure that you are weighing out all of your options, especially if you are worried about being committed to another lengthy contract. Sometimes the huge offers are worth it though. Double-check your plan, the options you are interested in, and the contract that you will have to sign. Use a safe payment vendor when shopping online and you will be good to go.
