Speeding up the Website Creation Process

Posted By Admin on June 12, 2008 @ 11:12 am

One of my biggest challenges as a business owner is a lack of time.  Sure, I would like to get everything done, but that is not a reality.  In fact, I would almost certainly say that there is never enough time – we just have to make the best of what little we have.

When it comes to my website empire, my challenge is the number of sites I have to create.  I mostly have all the content outsourced, but I still do the web designing myself.  A good example of time eating tasks would be the JavaScript menu I created for one of my sites – it took way too long.

So, when I came to a site promising quick and easy web design software I was hooked.  I could use anything to reduce my workload, and the software promised just that.

I purchased it and I am trying it out, and so far I am pleased.  It has made life a lot easier, so much so that I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of using something like this sooner.  Anyway, it has sure sped up my website creation – and for that I am thankful.

Late Night Bargain Hunting

Posted By Admin on June 11, 2008 @ 9:12 pm

Okay, it might not be so late, but it is a little bit late to be looking for a bargain.  I guess the thing is, I am looking for a bargain on something that a lot of people wouldn’t look at in a place that most of my friends wouldn’t consider.

You see, I am looking for land for sale in the UK.

Now, that might seem a bit weird, but I heard through the grapevine that it was a good place to invest money.  The fact that there is very limited space there promises that I should get a good return on my investment, but I wanted to make sure that the UK land was as good as I had heard.

So, I have been reading on a bunch of land investment websites to read suggestions on areas, as well as crunching numbers on the properties that I have found that have potential.

Hating the Digitized World

Posted By Mitefind on June 6, 2008 @ 2:37 pm

I am so sick of this new “technological” world that we live in. The one thing that makes me angry, more than anything else, is the fact that you can never talk to a human anymore when you call a toll free number. It is always a machine that gives you options.

There is, of course, not an option for the information that you are looking for and you end up on the phone for twenty minutes and get absolutely no where. By the time you ever get to talk to someone, you are so angry over the digitized message that you forget what you called about in the first place.

My suggestion is that if you are going to have a toll free service for your products, you should at least make it easy for consumers to navigate. Otherwise, you end up with customers like me, and trust me, you don’t want that.

Training Day

Posted By Admin on June 5, 2008 @ 5:14 pm

I just started a new job at a store that rents just about everything.  Most of the stuff that is rented at the shop is pretty straight forward, and we do little but get the customer to sign the rental agreement, and send them on their way.  These are the easiest things that we do there, but there are other things that we rent that require a little more knowledge to do properly.

For example, the party tents, obstacle courses and inflatable slides are required to be setup on site.  We do this for the customer as both a service, and so that we ensure that there are no problems with them prior to the customer doing them.  Previously, we had let the customers set them up themselves, but we had a number of them damaged because of it.

So, today we learned how to setup the many items that we rent that require installation.  Though most of them were pretty easy to do, I had some problems with the party tent I was setting up.  Needless to say, I will be looking forward to setting up on site – it will be a nice break from the office.

For Better or For Worse

When my husband was in his car accident, he was hurt very badly. I knew that he had a long road of healing ahead of him and that it was going to be difficult for him to have to learn to walk all over again. He was extremely active and I knew that it was disappointing for him to have to lie there completely idle.

I vowed that I was going to do whatever it took to get him back on his feet again. I took a few classes to learn some massage therapy techniques and I read everything that I could find on the type of paralysis that he had endured.

He was in the hospital for many months going through rehabilitation and physical therapy. When he came home, I spent hours rubbing his legs and getting the circulation going. He is now walking again and he says that he could have never done it without my love and support. I told him that is what I was here for.

Business After a Bankruptcy

Posted By Admin on June 3, 2008 @ 7:13 pm

Things have sure been different this time around when I have tried to start a new business.  You see, a couple of years ago, I went bankrupt due to horrendous medical bills – I had no choice.  But the result of that decision was that I lost everything – my business, and my credit.

So now, a couple of years later, when I am trying to rebuild my life, I have run into some roadblocks.  We are trying to open a little music store in a local mall, but we have run into some issues such as financing and getting a merchant account.

Unfortunately for me, my bankruptcy is a strike when it comes to most merchant account providers and they want nothing to do with me.  But, I have found some high risk merchant accounts that will let me apply with no credit check at all.

So, I have applied and hopefully I will be accepted.  Otherwise, I might just have to scrap the idea for our business altogether.

Webinars

I absolutely love webinars! I think they’re the greatest thing since, well, the Internet! I especially like those that allow us to not only hear what’s being said, but also that have visuals. I’ve been a apart of so many types I can hardly count. Some of the topics include article writing and primarily Internet marketing – including building a web site, choosing a domain name, free MySQL hosting, blogging, podcasting, creating products, web 2.0, self-promotion, ADD, outsourcing, and the list just goes on and on and on.

Now that I’m getting to the point where I should be holding webinars of my own, I am just a bit apprehensive. I don’t know if the technology will do me in or not. I’m not a technophobe, by any means, but hosting a teleseminar or a webinar is a whole other thing from being a participant. If you’re wondering what that sound is, it’s my muse, clucking like a chicken, putting me to shame. Sheesh! So much for a muse being inspiring.

Making Our Merchandise Available

Posted By Mitefind on @ 10:12 am

My boyfriend has started his own company making jewelry. He is really good at it and we thought that we should get it on the Internet, allowing it to be seen by more people. As neither one of us are very computer literate, we decided to consult a friend as to how to get started in this process.

He told us that we would need to buy a domain name before we could do anything else and he gave us a list if sites to visit that offered cheapest domain names. He then suggested that we hire someone to help us build a site that would be easy to navigate.

We decided to go for it and asked ourselves what is in a name? We came up with a name that would tell people exactly what it was that we were offering and then got someone to work with us on building the page.

Never going to use a Map Again

Posted By Admin on June 2, 2008 @ 7:03 pm

I have always been a fan of maps – if you follow them, you rarely get lost.  At least that is how it has been all of my life, and I tend to stick with what I know.

But when we rented a car to go to a convention out of town, it was equipped with one of those GPS devices that you always hear about on the news and in stores.  I guess my wife ordered it so that we would have a smoother trip, though I didn’t understand why she didn’t trust my maps.

It took a while to get used to using the device, but once we started it was clear that it worked amazingly well.  Even the time that we were talking a bit too much and missed our turn, it told us nicely how to get back on track.

Sadly, the maps were forgotten, and we relied on the GPS the whole trip.  I think my wife is going to buy me one for my birthday, at which point I don’t think that I will ever use a map again.

He Knew What He Was Doing

Posted By Mitefind on @ 8:14 am

When my husband first told me that he was quitting his job to stay home and work on his Internet business, I was furious. I figured that he was letting his whole family down and that there was no way he would be able to support us with his meager Internet earnings.

I also knew that if I told him that he could not do it that he would eventually resent it, so I let him quit his job, knowing that when it got bad enough, he would go back to work. He bought into some Internet advertising tools and at that point, I figured that he was putting way too much back into the company and not enough into our refrigerator.

Soon though, he started making real money and within a few months, he far surpassed the income he had been making at his job. I had to admit that I was wrong and I am pleased that his dream is actually becoming a reality.
