A Pleasant Surprise

A few years after the birth of our second child, my husband and I decided that it was time to have the third and final member of our perfect family. We were pregnant shortly after deciding it was time and I was savoring the pregnancy, as I knew it would be the last. At eight weeks, I lost the baby and was devastated.

I was actually a little bit confused, as I had never had any trouble carrying either one of my first two. We waited about six months and then decided to try again. We were pregnant that very same week, but we lost that baby as well. I decided it was time to go and talk to my OB/GYN about recurrent miscarriage.

After the second miscarriage, I was very sick and I was worried that something had gone very wrong. It took two months to get in to see the doctor and when I the day finally came, he wanted to do an ultrasound to find out why I was so ill. Surprise above all surprises, there was a baby on the screen. I was pregnant; about seven weeks.

I was ecstatic, but also concerned after the last two miscarriages. I took it easy and we just welcomed out little girl, Alexandra, into the family. She is a perfect addition.
